Auto accident injuries

When you are in an auto accident regardless of the speed of your vehicle the ligaments in your neck are susceptible to injury. Symptoms of ligament damage include headaches, sore neck, forward head posture (your head sticking out in front of your body), TMJ (Jaw pain) and migraines. How do you know if you have ligament damage? Only by getting specialized x-rays of your neck. You may have damage without pain or the pain may take weeks to months to show up, so it is always best to get an x-ray and find out for sure. If you don't have ligament damage then you now have a set of x-rays that show no damage, and if you get into another accident you will know which accident caused the injury.

Auto accident treatments

Treatment in our office includes a very thorough examination and x-rays on your first visit, then we will go over exactly what we see on the x-rays and the treatment that is required to restore your body to pre-accident status.

Our treatment is very comprehensive, far more than anything you have experienced before. Your treatment starts with a stretching strap you use to stretch your neck in six different ways, then cervical traction which will help you to restore the lost curvature in your neck and take the pressure off your discs and nerves. You will then sit on a specialized chair called a wobble chair where you will do six different warm up exercises followed by figure eight exercises to rehydrate the discs and prepare your spine for your adjustment. After the wobble chair your nervous system will be tested using noninvasive neurological tests and we will work on specific areas of your body based on your exam and test results each visit. Your doctor will then give specific chiropractic adjustments as needed and your nervous system will be checked again and treated until you achieve balance. Once your brain is balanced with your nervous system you will put weights on your head to exercise and rehabilitate the neck muscles and retrain the nervous system while you do balance exercises such as wobble board. You will then do isometric exercises that are designed to rehabilitate your neck, mid back, and low back. Most of these exercises will also be done at home with equipment that will be issued to you. You may also receive a small device that you wear on your hip that will give electric stimulation to help decrease pain.

How auto insurance works in Utah

Utah is a no-fault state, so when you are in a car accident in Utah it doesn't matter who is at fault for the accident you are guaranteed treatment that will be paid for by your auto insurance company with no penalty to you. If the other person is at fault, your company will recover the money they paid from the other company. Medical treatment, chiropractic treatment, and massage are all covered under what is called personal injury protection, or PIP for short. This is the medical coverage that covers you when you are in an auto accident, or any injury that involves your vehicle. For instance, if you are changing your oil and the vehicle falls on you this is covered under PIP! If you were on a skateboard and being pulled by a car and have a bad accident this is covered under PIP (we don't recommend doing this with your skateboard!). Something that is really important to know is that most people have the minimum amount of pip required by law which is $3,000. This amount was determined in the 1970's back when this covered quite a bit of treatment. Now this may not even cover your ride to the hospital, so it is important to call your agent and raise your pip coverage which usually only costs $20-$40 a YEAR to go to max coverage of $20,000-$100,000. We have had people crying and thanking us for letting them know this because they raised their PIP and some time later were in an auto accident that was their fault. Had they not raised their coverage they would have been bankrupt from the hospital bills.
